SPT16

USCG/ABS Approved 16 Passenger Tourist Submarine with Foreign Flag Capable of Diving to 328 Feet (100m)

The SPT-16 was designed by famed underwater pioneer Jacques Piccard, and manufactured by Sulzer Brothers Limited (Sulzer Thermtec AG) located in Wintertur, Switzerland in 1992. The SPT-16 is a moderately sized tourist submersible and represents a departure from the larger 'Greyhound buses', which are so common in this industry today. The SPT-16 is capable of carrying 16 passengers to depths of 100 meters (330 feet) approximately eight times per day. Remarkably large and uniquely configured spherical sector side viewports provide spectacular viewing for the occupants.

DSA personnel were responsible for the initial certification of this vessel after it was sold by Sulzer to a buyer in Miami, Florida. DSA personnel resolved all of the outstanding issues with ABS and successfully completed construction of the boat both on budget and on time. The vessel was transported to Key West in 1996 and has been in storage at the Safe Harbour Marina on Stock Island ever since.

Recently, DSA personnel were hired to conduct a condition survey and refit analysis for a client.

The SPT-16 is currently in "laid up" status with ABS and is available for sale. Interested parties should contact us with questions.
