Diver Lock Out & Dry Transfer Submersible Converted to Carry 10 Passengers on Dives to 1,000 ft.
PC1601 was one of only two dry transfer/diver lock-out submersibles built by Perry Submarine capable of diving to 3,300 feet (1,000m). PC1601 was sold to a private owner by British Underwater Engineering (BUE) in 1988 and DSA personnel were hired to oversee the conversion of this boat from a dry transfer/diver lock-out submersible into a ten-passenger, 1,000 foot (305m) depth rated tourist sub. Conversion work was conducted at various facilities around Edinburgh, Scotland but primarily at the Fluid Energy Limited (FEL) facility in Inverkeithing.
In addition, as part of this same project, DSA personnel were responsible for the manufacture of a tourist submersible and surface supplied diving support barge at the Harbour Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce, Florida. DSA personnel transported the completed barge, set it up and verified all systems were operational in Cozumel, Mexico as part of this process.
Unfortunately, PC1601 was never completed and currently the vessel is in storage at a warehouse facility in Scotland. The vessel and all associated spare parts including a comprehensive set of all manufacturing drawings are available for sale.
